SatFrom romance to quirk, a programme across SchwuZ's Kathedrale, Bunker, and Salon stages offers it all.
The SchwuZ Kathedrale welcomes Fatima Al Qadiri's Berlin live debut, presenting a version of Shaneera, her most recent EP for Hyperdub. The release shows off Qadiri’s evil, femme alter ego, and joyfully articulates a love letter to evil and benevolent queens around the world. Deena Abdelwahed, the innovative Tunisian DJ, vocalist, and producer, also appears to perform her debut album, Khonnar, a manifesto for a generation that does not seek to please or to conform. Linn da Quebrada, known for making music that appropriates the often violent funk carioca genre to passionately rebut transphobia and other political violences, appears for a special DJ set. She’ll be joined by collaborator Pininga, a NAAFI and Staycore affiliate, and global bass explorer. Brat Star displays an aversion to both rules and convention. The DJ has played for Spanish rapper Yung Beef, guested on coucou chloé’s NTS Radio show, and promoted her own boundary-demolishing nights. Duo Sick Girls are guaranteed to spin anything weighty, rumbling, and sub-bass heavy.
Fatima Al Qadiri[US]
The formidable artist, musician, and composer Fatima Al Qadiri was born in Senegal, raised in Kuwait, and is now based in New York. Her work pivots around the politicized axes of gender, consumerism, military action, and religion.
Brat Star[CA/DE]
Raised in Montreal but now residing in Berlin is Brat Star, a DJ working across genres to create high energy party vibes wherever she performs. She tosses techno, dancehall, and trap, among other, styles haphazardly into her mixes. Since moving to Berlin, Brat Star has thrown herself head first into the city’s nightlife, staging the SMH parties at St Georg.
Deena Abdelwahed[TN/FR]
With roots in the Tunisian alternative music scene, Deena Abdelwahed works to inject a dose of innovation and experimentation into electronic dance music in Tunisia. Trained as a jazz singer and performer, Abedlwahed has made a name for herself as a singular producer, as evidenced by her Klabb EP and, more recently, debut album Khonnar.
Pininga[BR]
Pininga is a São Paulo-based DJ and producer, who blends together the vast range of styles borne from Brazil. One third of Baile Furioso, and one quarter of Club Tormenta, Pininga is also affiliated with South American label NAAFI, the Stockholm-based Staycore, as well as queer MC Linn da Quebrada.
Linn da Quebrada[BR]
Linn da Quebrada is a rapper confronting violences against the black, queer, and trans communities in her native Brazil. Her audiovisual epic Pajubá, seen as Brazil’s answer to Lemonade, will be performed live with a 10-person group for this year’s CTM Festival.
Sick Girls[DE]
Urban power house Sick Girls has been challenging Berlin's techno monopoly and remapping the city's sonic infrastructure for years. Their sets consist of all things heavy, bassy, and fiery.
