Returning to CTM to celebrate the festival’s 20 years is Through My Speakers, a family united through their shared love of bass music. Members welcome a number of special guests for the night.

TMS founder Sarah Farina and members LeFeu, Qumasiquamé, and Walter Vinyl have invited Slikback, Gafacci, Phatstoki, and Sho Madjozi to join them. Kenyan producer Slikback made a name for himself with 2018’s gnarly, bassy Lasakaneku, which came out on Nyege Nyege’s new label, Hakuna Kulala. One of Ghana’s most sought-after producers, Gafacci has created hits for some of the biggest names in Ghanaian music will appear in support of his first solo EP, AHUNDA. DJ Phatstoki is part of the Pussy Party team, a night that provides a regular platform for queer, femme, and women DJs/ artists to “practice, incubate, exchange, and expose.” Sho Madjozi is the South African rap queen known for gqom-rooted tracks such as “Huku” and “Dumi Hi Phone.”

ARTISTS

LeFeu[FR/DE]

LeFeu found her way behind the decks through creating artwork for producers such as strip Steve. The music addict is part of Berlin crew Through My Speakers, as well as half of DJ/producer team SABRINA with She’s Drunk.

Phatstoki[ZA]

Phatstoki is a South Africa-based DJ, producer, filmmaker, and photographer, who is also part of the Pussy Party team. The night provides a regular platform for queers, femmes, and women DJs/artists to “practice, incubate, exchange, and expose.”

Sho Madjozi[ZA]

Sho Madjozi is the accidental rapper from Limpopo, South Africa. Known for rapping in her native Tsonga, as well as in Swahili, she is responsible for fiery tracks such as “Dumi Hi Phone” and “Huku”.

Gafacci[GH]

Ghanaian music producer and DJ Gafacci has been making beats for the better part of 10 years, but has only recently gained broader recognition. With a string of EPs and singles released online over the past three years, Gafacci has been part of the rise of experimental African club music.

Walter Vinyl[DE]

Hailing from ‘Ruhrgebiet’ (western Germany’s former industrial area) is Walter Vinyl, who discovered a passion in DJing via the sounds of local hip hop heroes, such as Too Strong, R.A.G., and Creutzfeld & Jakob.

Sarah Farina[DE]

Sarah Farina is known for sprinkling positivity and joy over the darkest bassy sounds. An innovative, skillful DJ, she’s the smiling antithesis of genre cliques and scene elitists. Her sets blend bass-heavy footwork and futuristic rhythms over fearless forays through R&B and UK funky.

Slikback[KE]

Slikback is a Kenyan DJ and producer, and part of the Nyege Nyege collective. After joining the Boutiq Studio in Kampala in mid-2017, he began to find his sound, which fuses footwork, trap, grime, and a variety of contemporary underground African club styles into a uniquely accessible sound.

Qumasiquamé[INT]

Qumasiquamé first plunged into the world of dance music after hearing his step-dad’s jungle cassette tapes somewhere in London’s Kilburn neighbourhood. His sets showoff a love of breaks, from drum and bass to jungle, as well as an affinity for reggae, house, garage, and grime.
