SatCTM has invited the nascent record label Disco Halal to curate one of Yaam’s three floors. Disco Halal dedicates itself to collecting and editing original dance music from the Arab world. Both of the label’s two founders make cameo appearances during peak hour, doing what they do best.
To start off, DJ team SpatzHabibi, who spent years working together in a ramshackle bar in Kreuzberg before deciding to take their record collection on the road, present a polychromatic musical spread, from upbeat Arabiana to psych meltdowns and Asian film scores to sultry African disco. One half of Disco Halal, DJ and producer Chen Moscovic aka Moscoman is equally at home in techno and house land as he is with the dance classics of his native Middle East. After a couple of hours he hands the decks over to his colleague and partner in crime, Markus Lindner aka Delfonic. Aside from co-running Disco Halal, Lindner is an overall dance music force to be reckoned with. He manages the beloved Prenzlauer Berg record store OYE, is a resident at both Gretchen and Farbfernseher, and regularly travels the Berlin’s full club circuit. The evening goes out with a bang thanks to Autarkic, whose sets are testaments to his current infatuation with minimal wave and vintage electronics.
Ghanaian duo FOKN Bois, who gave the world its first and second first Pidgen Musicals, “Coz Ov Moni 1 & 2”, stand out for their most unconventional way of entertaining with ingeniously tasteful shock lyrics, revolutionary performance art & indulgent progressive sounds. Members Wanlov the Kubolor and M3nsa also appear within the festival’s daytime programme on the previous day.
Markus Lindner (a.k.a Delfonic) is the manager of Berlin's OYE record store. He began DJing in 2004 and has since become a fixture of the local dance music scene, playing, in his words, "every single club, shack, and party in the city, and quite a bit in Germany and the rest of Europe too."
Adventurous DJ duo SpatzHabibi cut their teeth as party-makers when they worked together at a ramshackle bar in Kreuzberg. Eventually, they decided their record collection might do Berlin’s nightlife a service, and these days their trademark broad-ranging taste animates clubs all over the city and abroad.
Moscoman is among the new crop of promising talent from Tel Aviv's burgeoning electronic music underground. With Delfonic, he runs Disco Halal, a label for fresh takes on dance music from the Middle East.
Autarkic is Tel Aviv's cold-wave rep and an affiliate of Moscoman and Delfonic's Disco Halal project, which collects and edits original dance music from the Middle East.
Dubbed by Afropop Wordwide as "the cutting edge of satire in African hip-hop," FOKN Bois' bold, taboo-bashing raps have brought the Ghanaian duo to global recognition.
