TueNow in its sixth year, the CTM Radio Lab is dedicated to exploration and experimentation in hybrid combinations of radio and live performance. It is a project between Deutschlandfunk Kultur Radio Art/Klangkunst and CTM Festival in collaboration with ORF musikprotokoll im steirischen herbst festival, Ö1 Kunstradio, and the British music magazine The Wire.
In this talk, Marcus Gammel speaks with this year's two winners of the Radio Lab open call, discussion their artistic practice and how they expertly blend personal and political narratives, as well as the new works they will each premiere at CTM 2019.
Marcus Gammel is from Bremen, Germany. He studied musicology, German literature and philosophy at Humboldt University, Université Paris IV and New York University. He has worked as a music journalist, dramaturge, and radio curator for institutions such as the Berlin Philharmonic, Reclam Verlag, and Deutschlandfunk.
Hailing from Guadalajara, Mexico, is Israel Martínez, an artist who works with sound, video, photography, text, and a number of other media. He is interested in catalyzing social and political reflections and critiques, and is one of CTM 2019’s Radio Lab winners.
Rwanda-born, Belgium-raised Aurélie Nyirabikali Lierman is an independent radio producer, vocalist, composer, and artist. As one of this year’s Radio Lab winners, Lierman will be premiering a new work for CTM 2019, entitled Sogokuru.
