Editions Mego II is part of the Editions Mego label focus at CTM 2014, which pays tribute to the label’s ongoing explorations in both contemporary and archival experimental sound.

Main in its current incarnation Robert Hampson, best known as guitarist of the recently reformed Loop, and German sound artist Stephen Mathieu. The two worked together on 2013's Ablation for Editions Mego: a tapestry of ambient aesthetics and dark drones. Their work includes material derived from field recordings, electronics, and pure sound design, mixed with Mathieu's spectral compositions for stringed instruments, organs, and radios.

Jim O’Rourke, storied musician, producer, composer, and director, has built a solo career on improv, noise, folk, and black-comic songwriting, while playing a crucial role in bands like Sonic Youth, Stereolab, Gastr del Sol, and Wilco. On Old News, a vinyl-only Editions Mego imprint, O’Rourke releases unknown works from across the breadth of his archive, as well as newer recordings. In 2013, O’Rourke issued eight albums worth of rare material, collectively titled Steamroom 1-8. As a world premiere, the Editions Mego II programme presents a sound diffusion of a new multi-channel composition by O’Rourke.

Kassel Jaeger’s works are a complex balance between concrète experimentalism, ambient noise, and electroacoustic improv. In his Deltas album for Editions Mego, Jaeger explores geological associations with sound – a theme he expanded in an installation for the “Multinatural Histories” exhibition at the Harvard Museum of Natural History, using eight channels to make mineral resonances audible.

Both Robert Hampson and Kassel Jaeger (aka François Bonnet) are closely affiliated with the INA-GRM in Paris, which is presented in the Editions Mego I programme.
