Uganda's famed Nyege Nyege Festival and CTM continue a fruitful, vibrant collaboration.
Following the Musicboard Berlin-supported residency that brought a Berlin-based musician to Kampala, DJ Scotch Egg, Khanja & MC Yallah present the fruits of Scotch Egg's residency at CTM 2020. The festival also highlights many Nyege Nyege affiliated artists, including another special commission by Gabber Modus Operandi ft Wahono x Nakibembe Xylophone Troupe, which is supported by the Goethe-Institut Coproduction Fund. Appearances by Catu Diosis, Debmaster & MC Yallah, DJ Diaki, Don Zilla, Duma, and Hibotep round out this year's Nyege Nyege presence at CTM.
Nyege Nyege is a four-day festival that takes place in the first week of September in Jinja, Uganda, at the source of the Nile. Since 2015, it has been presenting new players in the African underground music scene as well as international musicians. With seven stages and about 8,000 visitors per day, it is the largest music festival in East Africa. In addition to the festival, Nyege Nyege organises a one-year artist residency programme in Kampala, Gulu, and Dar Es Salam, Uganda, with community studios, workshops, and educational opportunities. These residencies offer a secure and creative environment for East African musicians. Some of the music produced in the residencies is released on the organisation’s two labels, Nyege Nyege Tapes & Hakuna Kulala.
