ThuStealth, murmur, sound in movement ... with Love and Rage, Israel Martinez proposes a tribute to the resistance and persistence of critical individuals, movements, and collectives around the world. Fuelled by the political, social, and artistic activism in his home country Mexico, the artist explores persistence and resistance as a condition to be able to survive, and to be able to imagine a different future.
The performances will be realized together with the LaR Ensemble (Casey Moir, Aimée Theriot, Brad Henkel, and Emilio Gordoa) and in cooperation with the DAAD Artist In Berlin programme. Please note that the audience will be blindfolded for this performance.
Love and Rage is one of two works commissioned for the CTM 2019 Radio Lab. Awarded by Deutschlandfunk Kultur – Radio Art/Klangkunst and CTM Festival, in collaboration with Goethe-Institut, ORF musikprotokoll im steirischen herbst festival, Ö1 Kunstradio, and The Wire magazine, the Radio Lab seeks unusual explorations of the artistic possibilities of radio and live performance or installation mediums. Following their premiere at CTM Festival, the works will be broadcast in their radio versions via Deutschlandfunk Kultur in spring 2019. They will also be presented by the Österreichischer Rundfunk (ORF Austrian Broadcasting Service) via one of their platforms: the ORF Zeit-Ton or Ö1 Kunstradio shows, or the ORF musikprotokoll im steirischen herbst festival in Graz in autumn 2019.
Hailing from Guadalajara, Mexico, is Israel Martínez, an artist who works with sound, video, photography, text, and a number of other media. He is interested in catalyzing social and political reflections and critiques, and is one of CTM 2019’s Radio Lab winners.
