As the events within the 16th edition were, 2015's 104-page magazine is thematically centred on the topic "Un Tune." This subject investigates how the immediate effects of frequencies, sound and music confront and disturb the human body, and explores the extent to which pre-conscious, psycho-physiological affects influence the perception and interpretation of sound and music. The word “tuning” is used as a metaphor for aligning, fixing, and optimizing, often to a norm or standard. Untuning, therefore, signifies sound’s ability to dismantle expectations and bend pre-established rubrics as well as to affect (both positively and negatively) humans’ physiological and psychological balance.

As the festival did with its eclectic mix of contributing artists, the magazine incorporates and excavates the Un Tune theme through a multiplicity of approaches, from discussions of the use of sonic weaponry in psychological warfare to the healing power of ASMR, and from “archaeoacoustics” to inspection of the racial politics of Berlin’s techno scene. Articles address the use of classical music in public spaces as an anti-loitering tactic, AutoTune’s potential to neutralize gender binaries, and the observation of sound as a manifestation of unexplained, paranormal phenomena. The collection also features of a handful of artworks that relate to the Un Tune theme.
