ThuFuture-tropical sounds abound as Staycore meets Bala Club.
Hyped label/collectives Bala Club and Staycore meet via Endgame, who exposes sensitive nerve endings through anglo reimaginings of reggaeton, future grime and Brazilian funk, Mechatok, who juggles club music, melodic pieces and rap, and mobilegirl, who remixes r&b divas such as J-Lo and TLC in a spectrum between 4/4 house and trance.
Tastemaker, Bromance label co-founder, reputed streetwear designer and creative director for controversial persona Kanye West, Virgil Abloh appears for a special DJ set.
Bala Club co-founder and host of NTS “Precious Metals” show Henry Vsop aka Endgame specialises in the “sounds of the underbelly: drill, auto-tune serenades and dancehall,” both as a DJ and a producer. His latest 4-track EP, Flesh, was unleashed via Kode9’s esteemed Hyberdub after a breakout EP for the label Purple Tape Pedigree.
The Milan-based Off-White fashion label founder hits the decks. Virgil Abloh is an American fashion designer and long-time creative consultant to Kanye West. The Chicago resident has worked with Kanye to develop tour merchandise, album covers and set designs, and has undoubtedly helped to catapult his name into the global consciousness.
Berlin-based, Munich-born Bao-Tran Tran or mobilegirl is an affiliate of STAYCORE, a label launched by Stockholm-based producers Dinamarca and Ghazal and Scandinavia’s darker, outward-looking answer to the marketability of London’s PC Music. Favoring dancehall, dembow, kuduro, and soca grooves, the label has taken artists like Toxe and Mechatok under its shiny wing.
Timur Tokdemir aka Mechatok hails from Munich but now calls Berlin home. This rising producer is a crucial member of Staycore, the groundbreaking Stockholm crew that’s been disturbing the order of the music industry. Mechatok is also a regular at Bala Club, a notorious London club night and label run by Uli K and Kamixlo.
