DJ Marcelle

[NL]

Dutch DJ and producer Marcelle, who also goes by the name Another Nice Mess, mixes her love for left field techno and classic club tropes with freeform musical styles influenced by art movements like Fluxus and Dada. Her DJ sets are irreverent to convention, but always are centred on a sense of adventure and surprise, blurring the distinctions between DJing and live sound collaging.

Since 2008, DJ Marcelle has built an impressive catalogue of original productions, starting with four double vinyl albums on Klangbad records (set up and run by Hans-Joachim Irler of Faust), all entitled Meets New Soulmates At Faust Studio Deejay Laboratory. More recently, her records In The Wrong Direction, Too, and Psalm Tree have been released by German label Jahmoni. Her latest record, For, released late in 2018, is a commemoration to the late Mark E. Smith of The Fall, one of Marcelle’s biggest inspirations.

As the owner of over 20,000 records, DJ Marcelle plays all over Europe, showcasing her eclectic knowledge of underground club, dub, post-punk, and hip hop. Marcelle’s sets are to be found in spaces as unlikely as museums, and she is a resident in clubs across the continent including Vienna, Munich, Basel, and Berlin. Between 2015 and 2016 she took on a residency with a circus troupe based in Barcelona, and at Nyege Nyege Festival in Uganda she was appointed their ‘Lifetime Resident DJ’.

Marcelle also hosts weekly and monthly radio shows for various radio stations in Europe, like Red Light Radio, FSK and DFM.
