RBMA Sessions x CTM 2016

This year's collaboration with RBMA begins on Thursday February 4th, with back-to-back RBMA sessions at Red Bull Studios Berlin. Hosts Hanna Bächer and Aaron Gonsher speaks to two CTM 2016 performing artists about their practice and music. The sessions are open to the public and free of charge.

15:30 Anna Homler with Steven Warwick (Breadwoman)

Anna Homler is a Los Angeles-based vocal, visual, and performance artist and the co-creator of the 1980s project, Breadwoman. By singing in an improvised melodic language, she explores alternative means of communication and illuminates the poetry in the ordinary. Homler first became known as a vocalist in the context of her Breadwoman collaboration and 1985 cassette release with electronic musician Steve Moshier. Thirty years later, the music still stands out, and was recently re-issued on vinyl by RVNG international.
For her CTM 2016 appearance, she is joined by visual artist and musician Steven Warwick, who’s multidisciplinary work invites the interaction of objects and media within an immersive environment. In his dance music project Heatsick (which appeared at CTM 2013), he sends a solitary Casio through a myriad of effects, looping up coarse, crisp, and twinkling out-house music into wonderfully queasy eternity. He teases out melodic and rhythmic mantras to an off-kilter, Burroughsian effect that wins on the floor and never forgets to be lo-fi fun(k). Hosted by Hanna Bächer.

17:00 Mumdance

Since reinventing his sound following his Mad Decent debut, prolific Londoner Mumdance (a.k.a Jack Adams) has become one of the biggest names in the world of grime. Adams' career blew up unexpectedly in 2008 after he sent Diplo a grimy remix of the Black Lips' "Veni Vedi Vici." Diplo swiftly signed him to his Mad Decent label and set him up with other high-profile remix projects for Santigold and Gucci Mane. In 2014, he and fellow grime deconstructionist Logos launched the Different Circles label and podcast, helping to coin the "weightless grime" sub-genre. Following previous joint releases on Keysound and Tectonic, their collaborative LP, Proto, dropped in 2015. Having performed last year at the CTM 2015 Closing Concert as The Sprawl (with Shapednoise and Logos), Mumdance returns to perform on CTM’s grime-infused main floor at YAAM on Saturday 6.2. Hosted by Aaron Gonsher.
