The winners of CTM’s annual Radio Lab call present their works tonight. Dani Gal and Ghazi Barakat consider noise and radio jamming with “Altered State Solution.” NUM (Maryam Sirvan and Milad Bagheri) create a three-part suite corresponding to past, present, and future. Afrorack, one of the first people in Africa to build modular synth setups, closes the evening with a dazzling blend of techno, abstraction, and acid.

What is the actual environmental impact of releasing recorded music? How ecologically impactful is touring? What would sustainable nightlife look like? And how to we—as musicians, agents, organisers, listeners—develop green practices? To close out this day of Rethinking Music Ecosystems, Chal Ravens hosts a panel with organisers, artists, and agents, that aims to envision how we could develop greener practices.

Wrapping up an expansive daytime programme is a closing panel reflecting on 10 days of music, debate, and discussion. Participants Graham St John and Sasha Geffen join former and current Discourse co-curators Dahlia Borsche and Anita Jóri to tie together many of the threads woven across CTM 2020 Liminal.

UK jazz scene stalwart Kamaal Williams returns to Berlin following an excellent DJ-Kicks mix that fuses inflections from jazz, soul, funk, grime, and more. He shows off his signature Wu Funk sound live, supported by Uganda’s Nakibembe Xylophone Troupe, an ensemble of eight who simultaneously play the embaire.

Today at 16:30, come experience the results of 10 days of experimentation. The 2020 MusicMakers Hacklab closes with a series of performances exploring the theme of Shapeshifters, hosted by Peter Kirn and Tad Ermitaño.

CTM 2020 closes with a concert from Dan Deacon, supported by BNNT. Described as a maximalist, an oddball, and everything in between, Deacon delivers one of his eccentric live shows, following the release of Mystic Familiar on Domino. Polish noise guerrillas BNNT and actress Jaśmina Polak support.

CTM takes over Berghain and Panorama Bar for the festival’s opening club night. Kicking off festivities upstairs are DECISIONS and Nervous Horizon artist DJ Plead, Moroccan club star Guedra Guedra, Queen of UK funky KG, Nyege Nyege core member Catu Diosis, Enchufada affiliates Branko b2b PEDRO, and our newly revealed special guest: Jamie xx.

Due to popular demand, the new commissioned work by Maria Thereza Alves and Lucrecia Dalt at the Botanic Garden Berlin will be extended by two weeks. “You Will Go Away One Day But I Will Not” is a spatial sound installation that invites the audience to walk through the tropical greenhouse wearing headphones that track each user’s movements to generate individualised binaural sonic experiences. Through this immersive installation in the tropical greenhouse, artists Maria Thereza Alves and Lucrecia Dalt attempt to open a space for the multifarious voices of the forest—organic and inorganic, human and non-human, speculative and lived—while also pointing to their silencing and erasure by European colonists.
