On September 17, CTM partners with Prague's likeminded festival Lunchmeat and the Goethe-Institute to present a showcase of new and established talent from Berlin at Prague’s Neone club. Now in its fourth year, CTM’s Berlin Current initiative taps into the city’s sprawling landscape of unconventional pop and electronic music hybrids to map out its current expansion of musical diversity, and to support emerging Berlin-based acts and artists. The two-room event features a kaleidoscopic array of new sounds from Berlin, showcasing the avant-garde art experiments of groupA, hypnotic late-night listening from Guido Möbius and Machine Woman, to the international beats of mobilegirl and Mechatok and beyond. Dancefloor selections by local protagonists DVDJ NNS, GSMNSTWRK and Synthronic invite the public on an intimate ride.

Early shows by then Japanese, now Berlin-based avant-garde synth wave duo group A was came as a shock to most spectators. Tommi Tokyo (synthesizers, vocals, percussion) and Sayaka Botanic (violin, cassette tapes) deliver non-stop waves of experimental noise, intensely emotional poetry readings and nude live-paintings. While their mixture of synth heavy minimal wave, avant noise, striking visuals and performance art still carries the very breath of early industrial pioneers such as Throbbing Gristle or Cabaret Voltaire, the duo has since evolved into a beast of its own.

Russian-born audio and visual artist Machine Woman likes to envelop her audience with sparse melancholic and at times cold electronic compositions. Inspired by late night listening of down beat electronic music mingled with post-punk, she walks the lines between techno and avant garde.

Guido Möbius is one of those musicians you can positively recognize by their sound. If Möbius sends one of his tracks on its journey you’ll never know where that journey might end. And it’s enormous fun to follow its musical mutations. The Berlin musician masters the art of subtly slipping us radical sounds and keeping a track in its flow even with the most unexpected twists and turns.

Rising voices in the Berlin and international scene, both mobilegirl and Mechatok are affiliates of STAYCORE, a label launched by Stockholm-based producers Dinamarca and Ghazal that favours dancehall, dembow, kuduro, and soca grooves, suggesting an outward-looking contrast to the marketability of PC Music. mobilegirl shifts tempos and adds triplet bleeps and bloops, metallic crunches, or reggaeton kicks to turn R&B classics into post-internet-friendly dance tracks, while Mechatok applies his classical guitar training into a signature sound that takes on trap, bass and r&b.

Opium Hum aka Michail Stangl – CTM co-curator, organizer of Boiler Room Berlin, initiator of Berghain's ≠ (not equal) series, co-organizer of the Leisure System parties, and all round progressive force on the Berlin club scene – nourishes his DJ sets on sombre, hazy drones and fantastical soundscapes permeated by deep and shifting rhythms to create what can only be called a wide-awake dream.

Local Prague artist and vital cog in the clockwork of Prague’s KSK party crew, DVDJ NNS uncovers diffuse passageways between street-smart urbanites, self-aware dance floor channellers and virtual entities through her broad-minded selections. DVDJ NNS is joined by a fresh new experiment, GSMNSTWRK, members of the Lunchmeat collective and Neone residents, that are inspired by a “Gesamtkunstwerk” conceptual meta-artistic approach. Their goal is simple - not one soul on the dance floor should be left unsatisfied. Formed in the past, created for the future, Synthronic draw dateless sound by synchronic vectors. The chromatic scale invites a touch of noir, inviting the public for an intimate ride.

This event coincides with Music Ports, a two-day educational program for young musicians, organized by Goethe-Institut and put together by CTM.
