N.M.O.

[DE]

Berlin’s N.M.O., a duo between percussionist Morten J. Olsen and computer musician Ruben Patiño, deploy SuperCollider software and stripped-down, roiling drums under the mantra, "As Strict As Possible".

N.M.O.'s semi-organic creations occupy a distinct space in the frequency spectrum; all amorphous bottom end thump 'n roll coupled with crunching mids and uncannily bright, pervasive highs. Their radical, aerobic take on live performance includes playful snubs to convention and military space music or "fluxus techno", often performed in the form of athletic endurance tests.

For The Death Of Rave they presented a unique trio of Tropocaliptic Excursions to follow their two releases for Barcelona's Anòmia label, including 2014's critically acclaimed and standout 12", Nederlandse Maatschappij Ontwikkeling. A second release that year came out on Where to Now? saw the duo to with the really quite hefty and serious concept of speed (& slowness), timing, and BPM. The Natalia Martínez Ordóñez EP is a studio recording of an outdoor piece commissioned by CO² Festival in Beirut in 2014, where the initial idea of a one hour piece has been condensed in a 30 minute record. The piece has been performed in Beirut, Krakow, and London.
