The Research Networking Day provides a platform to exchange ideas and experiences for students and researchers from different European graduate and postgraduate programmes traversing the fields of audio, arts, media, design and related theoretical disciplines. The 2020 participants and programme are now announced! Thematic modules will focus on the potentials for transcendent experiences in clubs and club cultures, on the relationship of sound and conflict, and on voice as a transmitter of identity and ideas.

Liminality is the possibility of transformation, ritual unbecoming. This year’s hacklab focuses on how performance practice and invention can change the performer—making them someone or something else, making them newly visible, or making them entirely invisible. To be named a 2020 Hacklab fellow, receive a CTM 2020 pass, and showcase your work as part of the festival programme, apply by 1 November.

Nusasonic will arrive in Manila for the 2019 edition of WSK Festival of the Recently Possible. Taking its name from “wasak,” which means “shattered” or “destroyed” in Filipino, the festival welcomes a diverse range of cross-disciplinary artistic activities. WSK will host Nusasonic residencies via a Hacklab and The Gangan Series Workshop Lab for improvisers and composers. Concerts welcome the likes of Gabber Modus Operandi, Betty Apple, Madam Bwakeva and the Bwakeboyz, Meuko! Meuko!, marum, and more. The Floaters Stage wanders through the public spaces of Poblacion, Makati, culminating in the presentation of work by Yennu Ariendra and Erik Tuban. Laure Boer, supported by Berlin’s MusicBoard, will take residency over two months.

A slew of boundary-defying artists arrive at Trauma Bar und Kino on 7 November 2019 for a night of uncompromising, outrageous sounds. Live sets by FAKA and KABLAM, and electric DJing by DJ Haram and Pininga give a peak into what lies ahead at Sub Liminal #2: a CTM 2020 Future Prequel. 

There is one week left to respond to the RND 2020 open call, which seeks innovative and critical submissions from all areas of study addressing the scope of CTM 2020’s Liminal theme. We invite students and junior scholars to present their research at an international platform that provides a good opportunity to meet various colleagues and researchers working on related ideas. Application deadline: 30 September 2019.
