In light of growing attentiveness to issues of gender balance and diversity within music festival lineups, the point is often made that change needs to happen simultaneously on a structural and internal level in order for such balanced lineups to be more than provisional box-ticking or a strategy to guarantee funding. Often, questions of diversity and gender balance “behind the scenes,” i.e. among organisers and decision-makers, get overlooked. What is it like to be a female-identifying person curating events, booking artists, commissioning and writing articles, and fighting for funding for artists ?

Co-hosted and moderated by Kat Young, Christine Kakaire, and Elissa Stolman of the collective Salt + Sass, this event features several short presentations by women with pivotal roles as both decision-makers and performers in the music industry. They will share their experiences and emphasise the importance of mentorship. The event will also act as a platform for members of the public to start dialogues, exchange ideas, and cross-pollinate their own work. A closing discussion will focus on best practices for both organisers and artists.

She is the managing director at Gonzo Circus Publishing since 2004.

Pamela Schobess[DE]

Sarah Farina[DE]
