Barış K is a veteran DJ and expert crate-digger from Istanbul who specialises in Turkish psychedelia and cosmic disco. Heavily influenced by hip hop, Barış delivered weekly shows on Istanbul's Dinamo FM and Açık Radyo for nearly ten years before turning his attention to the native sounds of his city.
His Eurasia edits, first shared in 2007, brought Turkey's hidden psychedelic funk-disco-folk music heritage to light. Reissued as Istanbul 70 on New York’s Nublu label, the collection generated widespread appreciation within the electronic music underground. Beyond DJing and production, Barış plays with Istanbul's live folk fusion project Insanlar alongside saz player Cem Yildiz and a rotating cast of guest artists. Their first single, “Kime Ne,” inaugurated Barış’s Aboov Plak label in 2013. Other recent work includes a collaboration with Turkish diva Sezen Aksu and remixes for the label Vox Populi and legendary Nigerian sax player Orlando Julius.
Barış co-founded Istanbul's Godet club and still holds a monthly residency there. He also helps curate the Anapop Festival, which staged Turkish psychedelic bands from the sixties and seventies alongside their psyche-folk contemporaries.
