Ziad Nawfal

[LB]

As a DJ, radio host, promoter, label head and more, Ziad Nawfal has helped to champion Lebanon's alternative music scene and bring it to greater visibility both within and beyond Beirut.

For the better part of two decades, Nawfal has broadcast local and regional folk, rock, electro-pop and noise performers through his Ruptures and Decalages shows on Radio-Lebanon 96.2FM. He cut his teeth as a selector in the early 90s, expanding his record collection by logging hours at Beirut's alternative record shop, La CD-Thèque and affiliated label, Incognito. In 2008, he founded independent music label Ruptured, which serves as a platform for emerging alternative talent from Lebanon and the Middle Eastern region. In addition to his occasional production work for punk-rock outfit Scrambled Eggs and Munma, Nawfal co-manages leading independent Lebanese music labels Al-Maslakh and Annihaya, and is the managing director of Irtijal, the most prominent festival for experimental music in Lebanon.
