Hailing from Leipzig, leftfield producer Gunnar Wendel made his solo debut in 2007 on Lowtec and Even Tuell's Workshop label, which has remained a home of sorts. His subsequent output under a variety of aliases is impossible to pin down, running the gamut from raw, machine-driven workouts to smoggy ambience, alien noise, and swooping melodic arcs. Nowhere is this restless style more evident than on his long-awaited debut album, Workshop 19, which struck a delicate balance between long-form, beatless wanderings and more muscular, dancefloor-oriented fare.

In 2013, Wendel appeared alongside UK figureheads like Four Tet, Joy Orbison, and Pearson Sound on a compilation from Boddika's Nonplus label. He also heads up the Ominira imprint, and works closely with fellow German producer Mix Mup as KM/MM. He is best known for his immersive live sets, which combine unreleased material with off-the-cuff jams on a rotating set-up of synths, keyboards, and drum machines. A recording of his first-ever live show, recorded in Manchester for a Workshop label night in 2009, was released on cassette via Mancunian collective .meandyou in 2015.
