Florian Sievers is a Berlin-based journalist. He was trained in economics but also writes about music, art, and architecture. He is an avid record collector and is deeply interested in the African roots of Northern hemisphere dance music genres from hip-hop to techno.
Sievers recently published articles about music scenes in Nairobi, Kenya; Luanda, Angola; Lagos, Nigeria; and Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. At the moment, he is working on a documentary movie about Addis Ababa's Azmari culture, co-curating a festival at Berlin’s Haus der Kulturen der Welt and co-editing a book about the history of club culture, public sphere and urban spaces in five African and five European cities. The book, part of Goethe-Institute’s extensive Ten Cities project, is going to be published with the art book publisher Spector Books in 2016.
