Valérie Lamontagne

Valérie Lamontagne is a Montréal-based digital media artist-designer, theorist, curator, and PhD scholar researching “Performative Wearables: Bodies, Fashion and Technology” at Concordia University, where she also teaches in the Department of Design & Computation Arts.

Lamontagne is the owner & designer at 3lectromode, a wearable electronics atelier dedicated to avant-garde crafting and consulting in fashionable technologies, and founder-director of Agence Simultané, a post-digital incubator and production company. She also sits on the editorial board of the media arts magazine, Etc. Média. Lamontagne’s work focuses on frameworks that combine human and non-human agencies. She is invested in developing responsive wearables that engage the environment and matter as performing elements.

3lectromode’s designs have been showcased in numerous exhibitions and conferences including transmediale, ADM Gallery in Singapore, ISEA2014 in Dubai, TodaysArt in The Hague,  Boston Consulting Group in Miami, Augmented World Expo in Santa Clara, USA,  Printemps Numérique in Montréal, CES in Las Vegas, Re-New Digital Media Arts Festival in Copenhagen, FashionWare in New York, Smart Textile Salon in Ghent, Belgium (2013); Toronto Fashion Incubator, SXSW in Austin, Texas, Siggraph in Los Angeles, San Jose Museum of Quilts and Textiles in California, and the Boston Science Museum, Boston.

Lamontagne has collaborated on and curated design and media arts exhibitions and events at events and venues such as the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam, "TechnoSensual" at MuseumsQuartier in Vienna, V2_ Institute for the Unstable Media in Rotterdam, the Vancouver Winter Olympics in 2010, A+D Gallery at Columbia College in Chicago, Musée National des Beaux Arts du Québec, and the New Museum in New York. Her research, work and residencies have received funding and awards from The Canada Council for the Arts, Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, Fonds Québécois de la recherche sur la société et la culture, Hexagram-CIAM; Concordia University Part-Time Faculty Association, Quartier21, Danish International Visiting Artist, Copenhagen Artist in Residency, Daniel Langlois Foundation, and Banff Centre for the Arts.
