Joe Goddard (Hot Chip)

[UK]

London producer Joe Goddard may be best known as the percussionist, occasional vocalist, and synth player in Britain's premiere electronic pop act Hot Chip, but he's mapped new trajectories as a solo artist, respected producer, and the driving force behind idiosyncratic dance music outpost Greco-Roman.

Formed over a decade ago as a five-member unit, there can be little doubt that Hot Chip stands as one of the most prominent groups from the last ten years. Their five studio albums, released by major labels such as DFA and Domino, have produced a number of top singles and collected myriad honours; in 2006, the group's sophomore album The Warning was shortlisted for the Mercury Prize, and a track from their subsequent record, Made in the Dark, was nominated for a Grammy. In the midst of all this, however, Goddard has managed to initiate a number of successful side projects, notably the Greco-Roman enterprise. Since starting out as a DJ collective and roving party with Dom Mentsh and Alexander 'Full Nelson' Waldron, Greco-Roman has become a fully fledged label, known for putting forward colourful, club-friendly releases from returning and newly uncovered artists. (The London-Berlin outpost has duly served as a platform for Goddard's numerous solo releases, including the 2009 LP Harvest Festival and 2014's Love Taking Over 12", and he also operates as one half of house, soul, and 2-step duo 2 Bears with Raf Rundell.)

For CTM 2015, Goddard appears as part of a Greco-Roman showcase alongside label fixtures Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, Lxury, and Roosevelt.
