FriFounded by tireless sonic explorer Lorenzo Senni, Presto!? is a label that evidences an insatiable desire for adventurous sounds. For this edition of Polymorphism, Senni and CTM will celebrate the label’s 10th anniversary with an exceptional night spanning radical experimentation and hard hitting club sounds.
Label boss Lorenzo Senni is best known for his experiments in uncharted sonic territory. 2012’s Quantum Jelly, released by Editions Mego, set the standard for a new type of trance, as he pulled the genre’s signature arpeggiated melodies apart, refusing to deliver its signature release. 2016’s Persona, released via Warp, pushed these experiments further, exhibiting a freedom from genre constraints, and a never-ending obsession with rave.
The night begins with the world premiere of a new piece by pioneering minimalist Eliane Radigue, performed by percussionist and sound researcher Enrico Malatesta. He will be followed by Lucrecia Dalt. The acclaimed multi-instrumentalist and producer, appears following the release of her well-received record Anticlines, which came out on RVNG in May. Palmistry and Mechatok, who released EPs on Presto!? in 2014 and 2018 respectively, are now working in close collaboration and will perform a special one-off live show. Italian minimalist Caterina Barbieri will bring her signature arpeggiated melodies to Berghain, which can be heard on her acclaimed 2017 double LP, Patterns of Consciousness.
Representing the heavier end of Presto!?’s catalogue is Gabber Eleganza, who will present “The Hakke Show” – a new-school hardcore set featuring rapid-fire gabber dancing, and relentless, driven kicks. Real name Alberto Guerrini, Eleganza has made a name for himself amidst hardcore’s recent resurgence, and released his first EP, Never Sleep #1, via Presto!? this past March.
DJ sets courtesy of Lory D and EVOL round out the evening. Sounds Never Seen label boss Lory D is credited as one of those responsible for bringing hardcore and acid to Rome. He can be expected to deliver hard-hitting techno, amidst other grimy rave sounds. Closing the night are EVOL, a duo who compose "computer music for hooligans.” Roc Jiménez de Cisneros and Stephen Sharp will DJ together to finish off a sprawling lineup that reflects the exploratory sentiment at the heart of Presto!?.
The appearances of Lucrecia Dalt, Caterina Barbieri, and Gabber Eleganza are supported by CTM’s Berlin Current initiative. The project, sponsored by Musicboard Berlin, identifies and supports emerging Berlin-based musicians, focusing on new, unconventional, and experimental pop music emerging from the city
