ThuLondon collective Bala Club takes over the next edition of Polymorphism. Formed by brothers uli k, kamixlo, blaze Kidd, and best friend endgame at the beginning of 2016, Bala Club quickly captured the imagination of London’s scene and has since been spreading its sound beyond its home city.
Somewhere between club night, label, and vision, Bala Club’s music is a whirlpool of low-end warmth, throwback rave euphoria and songwriting-driven party hits. Lyrics are rapped in American or sung in Spanish, reflecting Kamixlo and Uli K’s Chilean heritage as well as the collective’s gaze towards South American and Caribbean music cultures; its hard-hitting club music blends styles such as reggaeton and Brazilian funk with US rap, metal, and UK drill.
For their Berlin appearance, Kamixlo and Uli K are joined by labelmate Yayoyanoh, an elusive, future-facing rapper, vocalist, and producer that has collaborated with the likes of Yung Lean. A few Berlin-based artists and friends will be joining them for the night: Mechatok has created instrumentals for Uli K and is currently prepping his next EP for Lorenzo Senni’s Presto!? label; Toxe has brought her powerful yet delicate DJ sets to some of the collective’s club nights in London; Brazilian performance artist Negroma creates hybridized dance and experimental music works for both stage and club environments.
