Open Call for CTM/transmediale Vorspiel

Now in its fifth year, Vorspiel takes place as a city-wide programme where over 30 Berlin-based initiatives and venues invite the public to a series of exhibition openings, performances, interventions, artist talks, and special events. Each year’s Vorspiel series invites participating partners to develop programmes reflecting on CTM and transmediale festival themes. An open call for 2016 participants is now open until 13 November.

Call for Participants - MusicMakers Hacklab

The Hacklab is a weeklong collaborative, improvisatory, experimental environment for working together to conceive and realise new ideas in a week of intensive activity. For its 4th edition, the Hacklab engages in producing cross-cultural hybrids that imagine future topographies of sound and music performance under the "Future Rituals" title. A call for participants is open until 11 December.

First CTM 2016 Programme Announcement

The first programme announcement highlights a large number of commissioned work and premieres, and a larger number of voices and sound cultures emanating from less familiar countries than ever before. Complementing the Seismographic Sounds exhibition by Norient are performances and works by: Pauline Oliveros & Ione, Peder Mannerfelt, Abdel Karim Shaar and band, Keiji Haino, Vincent Moon, Aïsha Devi, Tienzhao Chen, Sharif Sehnaoui and more.

Japanese Pop Idol Hatsune Miku Comes to CTM and transmediale

Commissioned by CTM Festival and transmediale for their joint 2016 editions, Still Be Here is a unique collaborative performance that draws us into the multiplying realities of a 21st century pop star, Hatsune Miku. Following an idea initiated and conceptualised by artist Mari Matsutoya, Still Be Here is collectively created with music producer Laurel Halo, award-winning choreographer and visual artist Darren Johnston, virtual artist LaTurbo Avedon and produced by digital artist Martin Sulzer. The project will premiere as a joint highlight of the CTM / transmediale 2016 festivals before travelling to Donaufestival and the Barbican later in the year.

Floating Points Headlines CTM x Red Bull Music Academy Closing Concert

For the second year in a row, CTM joins forces with Red Bull Music Academy for the presentation of the 17th edition's grand finale at Astra, featuring Floating Points live, Pole & MFO, Ah!Kosmos! as well as an afterparty at nearby Watergate with Rabih Beaini, Love Cult (DJ), Nan Kolè and DJ Lakhe.

Full Music Programme Announced!

Le1f, OG Maco, Jlin, Rødhåd, Visionist and many more are joined by Vincent Moon and a commissioned work by Rabih Beaini for the Opening Concert, an night dedicated to Ana-Maria Avram and Iancu Dumitrescu with Hyperion Ensemble and Stephen O'Malley, Christoph Schlingensief’s “African Twin Towers” re-played by Hanno Leichtmann & Carolin Brandl, Anna Homler & Steven Warwick presenting “Breadwoman”, and Love Cult & Alina Filippova with their new film performance "Nada". On top of these diverse musical acts, Mexican artist Pedro Reyes joins the exhibition with his stunning transformation of drug war weapones into musical instruments in a work titled, “Disarm (Mechanized)".

Pedro Reyes Turns Weapons into Musical Instruments

The Mexican artist's striking "Disarm (Mechanized)" installation comprises seized and subsequently destroyed firearms transformed into musical instruments. Part of the CTM 2016 exhibition, the work will be shown throughout the festival's duration and beyond, until 20th March.
