Powerful lasers draw a bold but fragile floating object of shimmering, pulsating light. The drawing slowly evolves and fluctuates, occasionally breaking apart into scintillating fragments. Sometimes the shapes are barely visible, at other times they explode into extreme brightness. Dense and delicate sonic events emerge from the object, embedded in distant echoes of decaying piano notes. Sound and vision comment and complement each other merging into one breathing, bodyless entity.

The shapes and auditive elements of “Fragile Territories” are created in real-time using statistic and stochastic algorithms, resulting in a work of infinite duration; its state at any given moment is impossible to predict.

Originally commissioned in 2012 by Le Lieu Unique in Nantes, France, “Fragile Territories” will be shown for the first time in Germany at the Funkhaus Nalepastraße Sound Chamber over the duration of Loop 2016. The installation will be open to the general public on 9 and 10 November 2016.

This installation is made possible via generous support from LaserAnimation Sollinger, Berlin.
