Arca w/ Jesse Kanda (visuals)
Support: Moussa Coulibaly - MASU Rhythms and Sound from Burkina Faso

CTM Festival and Kometenmelodien are proud to present the German premiere of the new live audiovisual show by Arca and Jesse Kanda.

Following only two EPs on UNO NYC and a mixtape for DIS magazine, Arca was chosen to co-produce four tracks on Kanye West’s Yeezus album and performed alongside Holly Herndon in support of Atoms for Peace. His 2013 follow-up mixtape album, &&&&&, on Hippos in Tanks cemented his reputation within the music community as someone who’s sound “appeals to emotive instincts while bypassing inherently human components” (Tiny Mixtapes). Aside from his highly-acclaimed solo work, Arca has been collaborating with Mykki Blanco and FKA Twigs.

With a debut full-length, Xen, out on MUTE Records in November 2014, the Venezuelan-born NY-based musician will be touring select cities in Europe together with video artist Jesse Kanda, who has produced several videos for &&&&& as well as joining Arca for a live AV show at New York’s MoMA PS1. While Xen is an album of mercurial forms, fluxing unpredictably from smooth to spiked to sweet, Xen is also the star of the album’s first “Thievery” video - a girl whose skin ripples and twists as she dances. Arca, in turn, is also Xen: a metamodern self-projection, embodying a side of himself that had previously been hidden by a producer who has so far remained one of the most intriguing enigmas in recent electronic music.

Jesse Kanda is a video artist and director who works extensively with the possibilities of digital image manipulation. He has implemented projects with artists such as Comme des Garcons, Martin Margiela, XL Recordings, Kanye West, FKA Twigs, and SSENSE. Kanda has also designed all the artwork and accompanying imagery for the Xen album.

Moussa Coulibaly, a multi-instrumentalist from Burkina Faso, incorporates traditional West African rhythm into his own improvisations and songs. He started his education as a musician at six years of age, and since then he's mastered the Malian balaphone, pentatonic balaphone, kora, djembe, dundun, kenkeni, tama (the "talking drum"), bara, kania, and the African bells. He has toured with bands and musicians such as Benkadi, Les frères Coulibaly, Lanaya, Parisi, Arouna Dembele and Adama Dramé through Europe and Africa. He recorded his solo album, Naka, in 2013.
