Ulf Eriksson is a seasoned DJ, Red Bull Music Academy alumnus, and the chief of highly regarded Swedish outpost Kontra-Musik. Over nearly a decade in operation, the label has built a reputation for its broad-spectrum stylistic profile, specializing in what favoured German selector Gerd Janson describes as elegant techno offset by true-school house and ambient textures.
Eriksson founded Kontra as a club night in Mälmo back in 2002, as a means of countering the musical climate in the city and bringing quality electronic music out of the shadows. Swedish producer and ally Agaric delivered the imprint's inaugural release a few years later, and in the years since, Kontra has built a highly respected discography. Releases have come from artists as varied as Luke Hess, Jason Fine, and Jonsson/Alter, not to mention remixes from the likes of Marcel Dettmann, Move D, Morphosis, and Heinrich Mueller. In 2012, the the label also joined forces with fellow Scandinavian techno behemoths Skudge for the collaborative SKUM imprint, which gave rise to various-artist 12"s featuring the Skudge duo themselves, Andreas Tilliander as TM404, and more.
With his on-point label curation standing as a clear testament to his ear for (largely vinyl) selections as a DJ, Eriksson appears as part of a joint programme presented in partnership with RBMA for the 16th edition of CTM Festival.
