Shed is René Pawlowitz, a Berlin producer with a multitude of techno projects that reference the early 90s including Wax, EQD and WK7. Though he has a long history with Hard Wax and Ostgut Ton, his most recent album, The Killer, is on Modeselektor’s 50 Weapons.
Originally from a small town north of Berlin, Pawlowitz was a teenager when the Eastern Bloc fell apart. He produced and pressed his first 12” – Shed, Red Planet Express, (Soloaction) – in 2003 and schlepped it around Berlin record stores hoping to sell it. Hardwax was the only taker. He started working at the store soon after and has been a fixture there ever since.
Shed’s debut album, Shedding the Past, was named the album of the year by Resident Advisor in 2008. His follow-up, The Traveller (2010) was also very well received. The Killer, his third long-player, marked a change – it was released by Modeselektor’s 50 Weapons rather than Berghain affiliated Ostgut Ton.
Pawlowitz’ pseudonyms include Head High, The Panamax Project, Sigg Gonzalez, Zigg Gonzaless, STP, The Traveller, War Easy Made, Wax, and WK7.
