Lyra Pramuk fuses classical vocalism, pop sensibilities, performance practices, and contemporary club culture in what can best be described as futurist folk music. Originally from Pennsylvania and now residing in Berlin, Pramuk is a regular collaborator of Holly Herndon, Colin Self and Donna Huanca, and is currently preparing her forthcoming debut album.
Pramuk began releasing music independently on Soundcloud over three years ago, with her voice accompanied by minimal instrumentation and nearly imperceptible effects. Where the voice is deployed most imaginatively and seductively for Pramuk is just where the orbit of electronic music is conceived as a modular spectrum. Seizing on recorded work as well as performance to be a process of sampling and synthesis, genres are cross-pollinated and extended, returning all the while back to her formative impulse that storytelling is song.
Beyond music Pramuk is also a performance artist and a member of the curatorial team at Ableton Loop, and has been part of Holly Herndon’s ensemble for the performances of PROTO and Colin Self’s Siblings.
