Bliss Signal

[INT]

Bliss Signal is the collaborative creative effort of hazy grime-metal between Mumdance and WIFE, two established producers from dramatically different aesthetic backgrounds.

Jack Adams, the brains behind the project Mumdance, is an avant-grime mainstay in the UK underground club scene in recent years. His dancefloor hybrids fuse grime tropes with techno, noise, and epic sound design aesthetics. In 2014, he and fellow grime deconstructionist Logos launched the Different Circles label and podcast, helping to coin the "weightless grime" subgenre. Following previous joint releases on Keysound and Tectonic, their collaborative LP, Proto, dropped in 2015.

Singer-songwriter James Kelly was long best known as the sole permanent member and writer behind black metal outfit Altar Of Plagues, which has released three critically acclaimed albums on the labels Profound Lore and Candlelight. Using found sounds, home-made instruments and field recordings as a base, Altar Of Plagues creates music “full of radical tangents and alien-to-black metal elements, more focused on frailty and struggle than majesty and grandeur“ (Pitchfork). These ideas transfer to James‘s solo recordings as WIFE, which also reveal his long-standing interest in electronic music.
