AAA—AAA

[DE]

As AAA—AAA, Thilo Ruck and Timm Roller perform contemporary music on electric guitars, guitars, ad-hoc instruments, and electronics. The duo is named after a performance by Marina Abramović and her former partner Ulay in which the couple screamed repeated vowels at each other until their voices gave up.

Thilo Ruck is member of the artist constellation Pony Says and a regular guest with the Initiative Neue Musik Suono Mobile. He understands the interpreter’s role as going above and beyond that of a trained instrumentalist – rather, he/she should be a multifaceted artist who works closely with composers on the development of compositions and concepts. As such, Ruck is also interested in performative elements, improvisations with electric guitar and noise, and analytical works. He has played in premieres of compositions by Annesley Black, Jesse Broekman, Malte Giesen, Philipp Krebs, Johannes Kreidler, Ui-kyung Lee, Michael Maierhof, Nico Sauer, and Julian Siffert. He has performed at Acht Brücken Köln, Blurred Edges, Donaueschingen Next Generation, Eclat, Expo Milano 2015, Kyung-Hee Festival Seoul, Oper Frankfurt, Staatsgalerie Stuttgart, and Staatstheater Stuttgart.

Musician and artist Timm Roller is most interested in the relationship between humans and machine/digital bodies – especially the human fascination with technology as a reflexive tool and prosthesis. His work falls between sound art, electronic/noise, contemporary classical, and programming. He has developed performances and installations for the Blurred Edges Festival Hamburg, Eclat Festival Stuttgart, Impuls Festival Graz, Staatsgalerie Stuttgart, Staatstheater Stuttgart, Staatstheater Mainz, Oper Frankfurt am Main, Kulturbunker Mülheim Köln, Overhead Projects/Köln, and Citizen.Kane.Kollektiv/Stuttgart. He studied classical and contemporary music with guitar, electronics, and composition at the  Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Stuttgart. He now studies at the Kunsthochschule für Medien in Cologne.
