Semay Wu is a cellist, sound and performance artist who explores the space between gesture, image and musical language. She initiated the New Emergences lecture and discussion series in March 2016 and remains committed – with the rest of the team – to the continuation of the series.
Hailing from Liverpool/Manchester as a freelance musician and composer, Semay studied for the Master of Music degree in 2014, at the Institute of Sonology in The Hague and at STEIM in Amsterdam. Having now finished, she continues her explorative work, basing herself in Scotland, to also include the performative aspects of video art, interactive electronics, choreography, set design and instrument building.
