Qween Beat crew founder Mike Q is a leading figure in the ballroom and vogue-house renaissance that originated on the East Coast and has since caught fire around the world. Born and raised in New Jersey, Mike Q was first exposed to the longstanding local ballroom scene in 2003, at the age of 17.
Heavily influenced by the voguing and catchy beats—in particular, the Masters at Work classic "The Ha Dance"—Mike began to recreate ballroom tracks with his own twist, quickly earning a reputation among DJs, producers and on online ballroom forums, and landing residencies at the New Jersey and Harlem clubs where he cut his teeth.
Mike Q went on to team up with Night Slugs sister label Fade to Mind and Mad Decent, where he championed a bassy new breed of ballroom alongside the likes of Kingdom, Bok Bok and Diplo. His spine-snapping mixes have made him one of the most in-demand ballroom DJs working today, and he's put out countless mixtapes, edits and remixes, helping to (in the words of RBMA Radio) spread the ballroom gospel from NYC to the world.
