Raised in Brooklyn but born on the internet, Embaci is an emerging singer-songwriter and a recent initiate into diasporic collective NON Records’ new world order. Labels step aside: Embaci's slim catalogue is built on neo-R&B and cloud-pop confections uploaded to SoundCloud and tagged with a shrug (#don't know).
Crushworthy tracks like "tides," which was recorded in the bathroom of her parents' house on GarageBand, showcase a coming-into-consciousness on race and feminism and a voice that occasionally glows with the influence of Sade. Introduced to the genre-bending NON collective through Elysia Crampton, Embaci teamed up with founders Angel-Ho and Nkisi and Mexico City's N.A.A.F.I. crew on the digital mixtape NON VS NAAFI in 2016. "While singing I was trying to channel a girl who is a warrior and declaring her worth," she told FACT. Message received and understood.
