Skream feat. Sgt Pokes[UK]

Croydon’s Skream is one of UK bass music’s busiest, most prominent producers and has been credited with breaking dubstep into the mainstream. He has a long history with MC Sgt Pokes, the voice of the legendary DMZ clubnights in Brixton and co-operator of the DMZ label.

Skream (Oliver Jones) was born in London’s south in 1987. He started making music with Fruityloops at fifteen, and worked at Croydon’s Big Apple Records as a teenager. In 2000 Skream and Benga started making music together, building on the early dark garage that they found in the shop and heard around Croydon when going out. When “Midnight Request Line” dropped at the end of 2005, dubstep started brimming into the collective consciousness with Skream at the crest of the wave. “Midnight Request Line” (Tempa) is seen as the moment dubstep took centre stage in the UK. Two albums and a string of EPs and underground hits later, Skream has set up the respected Disfigured Dubz label, done remixes for Hot Chip, Klaxons, and La Roux, and formed ‘dubstep supergroup’ Magnetic Man with Benga and Artwork.

MC Sgt Pokes is founder of CroyDub and is part of the DMZ crew with Loefah and Digital Mystikz (Mala and Coki), whom he went to school with. He is the official MC for Skream & Magnetic Man and also does a bi-weekly show with Boomnoise on subfm.
