Outer Space[US]

The core duo of Outer Space is head of Spectrum Spools imprint for Editions Mego John Elliot (ex-Emeralds), and Andrew Veres. The project reflects influences from synth pioneers like Nic Pascal, Klaus Schulze, and Laurie Spiegel, to go beyond Kosmische Musik/Krautelektronik and techno tropes.

Outer Space began in 2007 as a solo side-project of John Elliot, chief moog player for the now defunct Ohio experimental outfit, Emeralds. Emeralds was noted for drawing from both ambient music and Kosmische and minimal music. In April 2009, the band opened for Throbbing Gristle in Chicago and New York. Andrew Veres joined Outer Space in 2010 and became a central member with his arrangement technique and production mastery. He has engineered, mixed and mastered projects for artists like Gary War, Sapphire Slows, Emeralds, and many others. The core duo is often extended for production and in live settings, where Elliott and Veres are usually joined by several collaborators from the recordings, including Jeff Hatfield, Adam Miller, Drew McDowall, Ralph Hausmann, and Philip Whiteside.

After innumerable cassette releases over the years, in 2012 Outer Space appeared on Blast First Petite with II, their second album in less than a year, following their recent Akashic Record (Events: 1986-1990) on Elliot’s own Spectrum Spools. Outer Space have performed at the Labyrinth (Japan), Sound Summit (Australia), and the Bunker (NYC) as well as countless other events worldwide.

Elliott heads the premier Spectrum Spools (a sublabel of Editions Mego) in addition to creating work as Imaginary Softwoods, Lilypad, Mist, Colored Mushroom And The Medicine Rocks, and Quiet Light Water Gap.
