Kanta Horio is a Tokyo-based artist and engineer with a background in acoustics and computer music. Using physical objects, he develops systems for generative sound.
Horio studied at the Kyushu Institute of Design in Fukuoka, Japan, and now works on performances and installations. His work is based on the spontaneous activities of various objects and their interactions with electromagnetic vibration, exploring, converting, and translating sound, light, magnetism, and movement.
A professional engineer of electronic devices, Horio focuses on musical instruments which combine user interface and physical vibration. Physical phenomena such as sound, light, magnetism, and physical movement are responded to and expanded on through the use of electromagnets, motors, LEDs, and circuits.
Horio has performed widely, both throughout Japan and internationally. He works as an engineer and has developed several projects, including interactive installations, films, and musical instruments.
