Hobocombo[IT]

Hobocombo originated as a tribute to Louis Thomas Hardin, alias Moondog, an eccentric American composer active in New York in the 1950s and 60s, who anticipated the minimalist tendencies later popularized by Philip Glass and Steve Reich, among others.

The Italian trio is formed by Andrea Belfi on drums and vocals, Rocco Marchi on guitar, synth, and vocals, and Francesca Baccolini on double bass and vocals. Their debut Now That It's The Opposite, It's Twice Upon A Time (Trovarabato Parade, 2011) explored a contemporary reinterpretation of Moondog’s arguably timeless original works. Their most recent album, Moondog Mask, was released via the same label in 2013.

In June 2011, Hobocombo recorded new arrangements for the film soundtrack “Video Days”, one of the first films by American director Spike Jonze during a residency at BISAR (Berlin International Skateboard Artists) in Berlin’s Kunstlerhaus Bethanien. They also created twelve episodes for the radio programme, Epsilonia, broadcast on Paris station Radio Libertaire between January and June the following year.

In June 2013, Hobocombo was invited to participate in a series of concerts and workshops on Moondog hosted by Evreux Conservatory’s Contemporary Music Department, along with Dominique Ponty and Stefan Lakatos, two musicians who accompanied the American composer in his later years.

For CTM 2014, Hobocombo perform in a programme with James Holden.
