Half Girl / Half Sick

As one half of urban power house Sick Girls, Alexandra Droener has been challenging Berlin's techno monopoly and remapping the city's sonic infrastructure for a decade. Her sets consist of all things bass and future hip hop, and more than anything she will challenge you to get your ass on the floor.

Alexandra Droener started spinning with Sick Girls almost a decade ago, in a Berlin where techno was king. Not content with 4/4 beat structures and linear buildups, the girls were drawn to Grime, Dubstep, Bass and other urban UK sounds mixed up with Gangsta Rap, B-More Club and Digi Dancehall. Their flare for heavy bass music and sense of now immediately caught on, giving them the opportunity to start their own party series in 2005 under the flag, Revolution N°5. At Revolution N°5 the ass kicking bass is the only common denominator.

With Sick Girls on the decks anything can happen but there will be bass. This adventurous attitude to spinning has brought them around the world and seen them play along side  Buraka Som Sistema, M.I.A., Major Lazer, Dizzee Rascal, Bonde Do Role, SALEM and many many more, as well as hosting their own FM radio show.

When she's not with partner Johanna Grabsch, Droener spins as Half Girl/Half Sick a venture that has taken her to Berlin Clubs like #gHashtag and Gegen Berlin alongside the likes of Lôtic and Black Cracker. She was also one of the editors of Electronic Beats online and of De:Bug magazine, bringing her diverse and extensive knowledge of music to print.

As a dj, promoter, and writer, Alexandra is a kind of nexus of everything bass in Berlin.
