Today’s Studio 1 Discourse programme looks at Liminoid Technologies & Aesthetics, opening with a talk from Emile Frankel, author of Hearing the Cloud. He asks an age-to-come question: if a sound plays for no one but you (or bots) to hear it, can it really matter in a political sense?

What would it be like if, just like a computer, you could switch off your body every now and then? What does it feel like to be dependent on a machine or on others? Tonight at HAU2 is a performance of “The Non-Present Performer” by Karel van Laere, in which the performance artist surrenders his body to a hypnotist, choreographer, and three dancers.
A day of Hacklab related talks and presentations opens with “Notes Toward an Animist Technology” by Hacklab co-host Tad Ermitaño. Departing from the uneven distribution of modernity apparent in Manila, Ermitaño considers the possibility of an animist technology, and what uses magic might still serve.

Those who missed last night’s sold out opening concert have the chance to catch the reprise tonight. “Frontera,” by Animals of Distinction with choreography by Dana Gingras, considers the visibility of human bodies amidst an era of aggressive nationalism and corporate mass surveillance. Opening is Jasmine Guffond, who performs live ahead of the release of Microphone Permission on Editions Mego.
The annual RND invites students and researchers from various graduate and postgraduate programmes to exchange and share their work. Topics this year include sonic affects, the sounds of socio-political instability, and the liminal voice. Hosted by Anita Jóri, Alberto de Campo, and Stefanie Alisch.

Tonight, Griessmuehle’s Room I welcomes a global lineup presented in collaboration with Puticlub, featuring La Zowi, Lafawndah, DJ Scotch Egg x Khanja & MC Yallah, Isa GT, and more. Room II is taken over by Berlin club collective Ghettoraid, who percolate the likes of footwork and juke in a cheap DJ mixer to create Ghettoraid: the jukin' juice!
Take advantage of a quieter day programme to visit the new commissioned work by Maria Thereza Alves and Lucrecia Dalt at the Botanic Garden Berlin. “You Will Go Away One Day But I Will Not” is a spatial sound installation that interrogates the practice of using Western scientific nomenclature to name plants worldwide.
