WedEmma Robertson speaks with Swedish composer and producer Maria W Horn and cellist Lucy Railton about their practice, and to explore their inspiration and approach.
While Railton only released her debut album, Paradise 94, in 2018, she has been making a name for herself in contemporary music for years.
Horn is known for her use of minimal structures and piercing power electronics, in addition to her activities in Sthlm Drone Society and role as label head of XKatedral.
The talks takes place as Horn and Railton joins the 2019 of SHAPE, a platform that re-unites 16 European non-profit festivals and organisations and aims to support, promote and exchange innovative and aspiring emergent musicians and interdisciplinary artists with an interest in sound.
SHAPE is supported by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union.
Emma Robertson is a writer and music journalist based in Berlin.
Cellist Lucy Railton released her debut album, Paradise 94, on Modern Love in 2018. Emerging from a long-term engagement with contemporary music, her recent work exists between modern instrumentalism, hard edged electronic composition and expressive musique concrète.
Hailing from the north of Sweden, Maria W Horn is an experimental composer concerned with manipulating time and space through sonic extremes.
