20:00 Colin Self – "Siblings"

How do we make kin and community? How do we feel, transmit, and connect?

Following the release of new record Siblings on RVNG, Colin Self will perform live with a choir and string ensemble. Siblings is Self’s second record, and marks the final chapter of their speculative sci-fi operetta series, Elation. The series traces queer trajectories that depart from global uncertainty and doom-obsessed cultural trends. Inspired by the work of seminal feminist theorist Donna Haraway, Siblings consists of “ecstatic voices and sound,” which “knot to form new ideals of kinship” and ask how we can collectively persist amidst environmental destruction. Self is a Berlin-based artist and composer who creates music, performances, and environments. Often working collaboratively, Self employs a Do-It-Together, rather than DIY, ethos. They have been a part of a DIS Magazine boy band, drag ensemble Chez Deep, and Holly Herndon’s touring A/V Trio and ensemble. Self co-wrote operetta “The Fool” (Elation V) with Raul De Nieves, and also runs Xhoir, a non-utilitarian vocal workshop for group singing and listening.

The cast of Siblings features Masterzuki, Harald Stojan, Spilios Gianakopoulos, mélodie melak, Jördis Hirsch, Joey Hansom, Sanni Est, Lyllie Rouvière, Gulnara , Shelley Etkin, Renata Abel, Merja Kokkonen, Daniela Schmidke, F. Šilih, Lilly Pfalzer, and Constanze Mareike Liebel. The vocal trio consists of Roman Ole, Albertine Sarges, and Colin Self; the string trio features Faris Amin, Alice Colley, and Shasta Ellenbogen.

Opening the evening is Maria W Horn, a Swedish composer who distorts time and space through sonic extremes, playing with and manipulating mental states. With a background in electroacoustic composition from the Royal College of Music in Stockholm and Universitat der Kunste in Berlin, her work oscillates between minimalist structures and piercing power electronics.

Maria W Horn is supported by the SHAPE platform, which is funded by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union; as well as the Up Node network.
