ThuCrack magazine's Emma Robertson speaks with emerging producer S. Jimenez Alvarez, alias JASSS, exploring her artistic inspiration and approache. Hailing from the punk and hardcore roots of her youth, JASSS's sound has evolved into deep explorations of industrial, dub, and experimental music, leading to output on labels such as Mannequin Records and iDEAL Recordings.
A representative from the SHAPE platform, which is supporting JASSS in 2018, will give a short introduction. SHAPE reunites 16 European non-profit festivals and organisations to create a platform that aims to support, promote and exchange innovative and aspiring emergent musicians and interdisciplinary artists with an interest in sound. The organisation supported a total of 144 artists for three years from 2015 to 2017 and has been renewed for another four years starting in 2018.
Hosted by Crack magazine and SHAPE. SHAPE is supported by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union.
Emma Robertson is a writer and music journalist based in Berlin.
The output of Berlin-based sound artist and producer JASSS layers shades of sepulchral jazz and experimental electronics onto the foundations of industrial EBM or African and South American rhythms for dreamy, mercurial dancefloor times.
