Theo Nabicht is a saxophone, bass clarinet and contrabass clarinettist. He studies at the Berliner Musikhochschule “Hanns Eisler” from 1983 – 1987. From 1995 – 1997 he specialized in bass clarinet performance at the Strasbourg Conservatory, under Armand Angster.
He has worked within many music genres since 1985, first mainly as a jazz musician and later as a performer of contemporary and improvised music. He has contributed to various CDs and recordings. He is a longtime member of the Neue Musik Berlin chamber ensemble, and was a guest at the Klangforum Wien and the ensemble Modern. He has also worked as a composer for theatre, dance, and TV productions.
Since 2007 he plays a Wolfgang Stryi Selmer double bass clarinet thanks to the kind support of an anonymous patron. The double bass clarinet has been at the centre of his work over the last ten years, during which he has created more than 60 new compositions for this (and other) instruments. He aims to explore the sonic spectrum of this instrument through his solo and group performances, and plans to release comprehensive documentation for it in spring 2018.
