Rohrhuber’s background is in visual communication, which he studied at the University of Fine Arts of Hamburg (HfbK). He has conducted research into agency and algorithmic acoustics at the University of Cologne and the Academy of Media Arts, where he has also given seminars on philosophy and computer science. He has taught music informatics at the University of Music of Karlsruhe, and has also been an associate member of the media science group Locating Media, or Situierte Medienat, at the University of Siegen. His academic work on algorithmic acoustics and the philosophy of science has been featured everywhere from IRCAM Paris to Berlin’s University of the Arts to the University of Cambridge.

He can be heard improvising in live coding ensembles such as Powerbooks Unplugged and drb, and can also be found working on new methods of programming, such as JITLib. Rohrhuber has worked with Marcus Schmickler on a project entitled POLITIKEN DER FREQUENZ, which was released by Editions Mego and Tochnit Aleph. Inspired by Alain Badiou’s Le Nombre et les Nombres, the piece works with a choir to interrogate the way numbers and calculation govern today’s economy, social sciences and everyday life.
