A man with a penchant for low-end basslines and dazzling rhythmic patterns, Champion is no stranger to innovation and his productions have made their mark on the UK underground.
The scintillating Motherboard EP came out on Terror Danjah’s Hardrive imprint in 2011. With musicality being the focus of his work, it’s no surprise that the East London beatsmith has managed to produce seminal tunes that span house, UK rave, garage and grime effortlessly - as heard on his releases Crystal Meth, via Butterz, and his Rainforest EP, on Roska Kicks & Snares.
The slew of impressive releases behind him also includes the Sons of Anarchy EP with Terror Danjah released on Hyperdub. Champion has also worked with the likes of Four Tet and Melé. His tunes have been played by UK mainstays Annie Mac, Benji B, Skream & Benga and Loefah, among others. He has also worked on expanding his own Formula Records network; the label recently celebrated the release of its first compilation, which features Zed Bias, Flava D, Terror Danjah, as well as the label head himself. Dummy Magazine write: “Champion’s own personal mission statement is simply to put out the sickest tracks, making sure all the while that no dope music is left unheard. Champion by name, champion by nature.”
