Russian-born Dasha Rush is a composer, producer, sound artist, and DJ. She has released music on influential imprints Sonic Groove and Raster Noton, and runs her own label, Fullpanda.
With an expansive discography behind her, Rush’s most recent release is her third full-length, Sleepstep, which came out on Raster in 2015. Comprised of “sonar poems for my sleepless friends,” the record explores a surreal dreamworld, weaving narcotic, trippy rhythms into hazy drones to form melancholy collages.
Rush debuted on her own imprint, Fullpanda, in 2007. The independent label is home to experimental sub-label Hunger to Create, and also boasts material from influential techno artists such as Stephanie Sykes, Donato Dozzy, Stanislav Tolkachev, and more. She is also known as one half of duo LADA alongside Lars Hemmerling.
Defying convention is central to Rush’s process, and she continually searches for new avenues for experimentation. She has collaborated with dancers, painters, and video artists, perhaps most notably with Stanislav Glazov. Their A/V piece Antarctic Takt has been shown at Berlin’s Atonal, Linz’ Ars Electronica, and Tokyo’s Resonanz, among others.
Rush also holds a position on the curatorial board of Budapest’s Spatial Sound Institute, a space founded by the 4DSOUND collective. Dedicated to facilitating research and experiments in spatial sound technology, the institute continuously welcomes a number of young artists to explore the medium.
