Chris Madak (Bee Mask)[US]

Philadelphia-based Chris Madak is perhaps best known for his cerebral sonic assemblages under the Bee Mask moniker.

The producer’s early output includes a delirious number of enigmatically titled experiments, released via localized platforms such as his own Deception Island cassette series. However, it was his Canzoni dal Laboratorio del Silenzio Cosmico that brought his work to an international audience when it was reissued in connection with the launch of Editions Mego’s exploratory imprint Spectrum Spools, curated by fellow CTM 2014 artist John Elliott in 2011. This release, coupled with 2012’s When We Were Eating Unripe Pears and Vaporware/Scanops on Room40, helped to sculpt the aesthetic identity of both Spectrum Spools and of Madak as an artist, and testified to the increasingly liquid relationship between experimental, cogitative electronics, and club music.

Over the past two years, Madak has toured extensively throughout North America, Australia, Japan, and Europe, performing at events such as The Bunker, Labyrinth, Optimo, and Unsound. His productions have been adapted by notable producers, including a seven-suite reimagining of his “Vaporware” track by Italian ambient alchemist and Spectrum Spools/Morphine label artist Donato Dozzy, voted one of 2013’s top albums by Resident Advisor.

Techno producers Surgeon and Abdullah Rashim remix Bee Mask material for the inaugural 12” for his new imprint, Pear Growers Series, released in December 2013.
