FriCTM is pleased to present Kevin Martin aka The Bug, who brings his blend of acid ragga, dub, grime, and dancehall to Berghain in a special live appearance together with Flowdan, Miss Red, and Manga.
Kevin Martin has worked under many names, releasing on Kode 9’s Hyberdub label through his King Midas Sound project (with Roger Robinson and Kiki Hitomi), working as Razor X Productions (with dub veteran The Rootsman), and pouring further energy into countless remixes and collaborations.
Martin’s The Bug first came to be through his collaborative album with DJ Vadim, Tapping the Conversation, in 1997. His critically-acclaimed Ninja Tune debut, London Zoo (2008), was hailed as a crucial reference to London’s early dubstep scene. 2013’s Filthy EP provided the first rumblings of his brand new Angels & Devils full-length, that once again regroups an impressive community of collaborators such as Grouper, Copeland, Mala, Miss Red, Flowdan, Warrior Queen and more. Joining The Bug for his live performance are Angels & Devils collaborators Flowdan (of Roll Deep fame), Miss Red, and Manga.
The evening is flushed out with an equally impressive array of artists, including Mala, gifted producer from the Digital Mystikz collective, who treats the Berlin audience to a rare DJ set.
Two artists from CTM’s Berlin Current initiative, which supports new emergent sounds of the city, also appear. Shapednoise’s productions are hybrid creatures, containing the genetic imprints of cyberpunk, harsh noise, vintage electronica, and EBM. He appears in support of a new release on Russian Torrent Versions, out this September 2014. A progressive force on the Berlin scene, Opium Hum nourishes his DJ sets on sombre, hay drones and fantastical soundscapes permeated by deep and shifting trhythms to create what can oly be called a wide-awake dream.
DJ Kahn joins Opium Hum to take turns providing all things bass and noise to the evening.
